“Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.” Proverbs 11:22
In a culture where women are continually sexualized, compared between, and pursuing the “if you got it, flaunt it,” it is hard to not fall into those pressures. The media is constantly showing off the bodies of famous women and telling us how and what we should wear. We are told, what to show, what men like, and so on and so forth. But here’s the thing- we [ladies] have been set apart from this world. So why has our women out there forgotten that Christ has called us to modesty and purity? I know, I know, when you work hard to train your body and get healthy, you want to show off what you’ve been working hard at. I u n d e r s t a n d. I am right there with you! But it is a dangerous place to be in when you start getting attention for the wrong things from the wrong person. You are valued, loved, cherished, adored by a magnificent Creator that says, “Women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control.” [1 Timothy 2:9]. When you don’t respect yourself, you are equally not respecting your future spouse and God Himself. If you question yourself with what you are wearing, it probably isn’t appropriate. Listen up though, I am not saying all this to call you ladies out, I am in the same exact pressures you are under! But stay steadfast in what you believe and Who you are ultimately representing. When you see other girls wearing things that are showing off parts of their bodies, remember that they are making men stumble and leading them into temptation. Do not let the enemy use you as a way of capturing a man into sin. Why do you think that one of the leading addictions today is pornography? Men function differently than women and struggle in the physical more than we do our mental. Push men to be godly men who earnestly seek after Christ, and not a Proverbs five woman that leads to destruction. “Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?” [Proverbs 6:27-28] Don’t be the beginning factor that leads a man into fire, yet be a woman that sets a man on fire for Christ.
You are Jesus’ first love, His beloved, and He wants to use you in a mightily way. You are strong and passionate, and this world is ugly and sinful, but our God is spectacular. He has so much work for the Kingdom to be done; don’t let Him question using you simply because of the way you dress. Remember to profess godliness and walk in the way that is righteous. Let’s take this path together and challenge each other daily to be the best godly women we can be.
